I know that Jean Dujardin in The Artist is supposed to remind me of Tyrone Power and his ilk, but he kept reminding me of Gene Kelly. Wevs. I’ll take any excuse to watch Singin’ in the Rain for the umpteenth time.

It took the graphic novelist Craig Thompson seven years to complete Habibi, his epic exploration of child slavery and sexual awakening in an imaginary Middle-Eastern kingdom. In this gallery he shows how it grew from his first ideas to the final pages.

This sounds like it’s going to be very interesting.
I watched the new documentary Pink Ribbons on the weekend (a media preview) and even cynical me was kind of overwhelmed by how so much of the well-intentioned effort in the movement to raise awareness of and funds for research on breast cancer is really just misdirected. It’s a good look at where the money goes, why so little progress has been made and how so many women with breast cancer feel alienated by the culture around it. In Canadian theatres February 3.
